Permafrost Game Map: Interactive Map, Copper & Fast Travel
Interactive Permafrost game map with 4,477 mirrored markers: copper, ores, loot, traders and 5 fast-travel posts, plus a route for your first trip.
Short answer: the map below is a working interactive map of the Permafrost world — 4,477 markers across 156 marker types, laid over the game's own 4096×4096 journal map texture. Toggle layers for copper, ore, loot, traders and fast travel, or search for a place by name. Your first Copper run should head for Rift Cave (17 Copper Boulders), Landscar Cave (13) or Crater (11), and the fastest way to cross the map is to unlock the 5 fast-travel posts at Horizon, Solar Fields, Church, Crow's Nest and The Last Stand.
How to use this map
Everything runs in your browser — no account, no third-party site.
- Move around: drag the map, or scroll to zoom. On a phone, drag with one finger and pinch with two.
- Find a marker: open Layers and tick the types you care about. Each row shows how many markers it holds.
- Jump to one marker type: hover a layer row and click only to hide everything else.
- Search: type a name in the search box — traders such as Condor, notes such as Liam's Confession, or a whole category name.
- Click a marker: you get its layer, its nearest named place and its map position. Click a numbered cluster to zoom into it.
- Start over: click Fit to frame every marker, or pick a preset such as Copper run or Travel & shelter.
What is on the Permafrost map
The world is a square roughly 3.05 km across, rendered here from the in-game journal texture at 4096×4096 pixels. Markers are stored in the map's own coordinates, so a marker keeps pointing at the same rock or building no matter how far you zoom.
| Group | Marker types | Markers |
|---|---|---|
| Resources | 9 | 1,357 |
| Loot containers | 24 | 1,955 |
| Loose items | 87 | 460 |
| Breakables | 10 | 279 |
| Places | 8 | 166 |
| Shelter and stations | 6 | 133 |
| Notes and recordings | 2 | 85 |
| Wildlife | 7 | 19 |
| People | 2 | 18 |
| Travel | 1 | 5 |
| Total | 156 | 4,477 |
That is a snapshot of one Early Access build, not a live tracker: a node you already mined still shows on the map, and player-built structures never appear at all.
Permafrost regions and named places
The world is split into seven broad regions, and the journal adds 35 well-known named places on top of them.
| Region | What to expect | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Woods | Frozen forest, wildlife, low structures | Hunting, your first base |
| The Estate | Fortified Technocrat territory | Faction exploration |
| Maple Island | Snow-covered high-rises around a city park | Urban scavenging |
| Solar Facility | Abandoned energy infrastructure | Traders, industrial loot |
| Urban District | Dense ruined city blocks | Containers and salvage |
| White Hell | Extreme cold | Late-game survival |
| Skyscrapers | High-rise terrain | Deep exploration |
The 35 named places include the ones you will actually navigate by: Horizon, House Camp, the Church, Crow's Nest, Solar Fields, The Last Stand, Bunker 21, Bone Cave, Landscar Cave, Rift Cave, Hunter's Glade, Woodcutters Outpost, The Dam, Water Tower, Charles' Park, Cougar's Den, Crater, Greenhouse, Sonnenberg's Clinic and Nomad Camp. Turn on the Places & regions preset to see all of them labelled at once.
Where to find Copper in Permafrost
Copper comes from Copper Boulders, and they need a Flint Pickaxe — a Stone Pickaxe only breaks Stone and Flint. There are 136 Copper Boulders on the map, and they are not spread evenly.
| Nearby place | Copper Boulders | Why go |
|---|---|---|
| Rift Cave | 17 | The single richest cluster |
| Landscar Cave | 13 | On the way toward Solar Fields |
| Crater | 11 | Dense, but further out |
| Improvised Radio Tower | 6 | Useful once you are mobile |
| Shattered Convoy | 5 | Mixed with cold-zone terrain |
| Shallow Rift | 5 | Alternative to Rift Cave |
| Rat Queen's Crossing | 3 | Small top-up |
| Charles' Park · Hunter's Glade | 2 each | Incidental pickup |
| Candlelight Inn · Frozen Pond · Woodcutters Outpost | 1 each | Incidental pickup |
Roughly 69 further Copper Boulders sit outside any named place, which is why the Copper run preset is more useful than chasing a landmark name — it lights up every Copper marker on the map at once, and you can read the clusters straight off the screen.
If you only remember one thing: cross the repaired road bridge near your first base, go downhill to the right along the frozen creek bed, and start there. That ravine is the earliest Copper you can reach, and it costs no travel time at all.
Other ore and resource nodes
Mining is gated by pickaxe tier. Rock and Flint fall to a Stone Pickaxe; everything below needs a Flint Pickaxe.
| Node | Markers | Where they cluster |
|---|---|---|
| Rock Boulders | 218 | Everywhere — the default filler |
| Flint Boulders | 200 | Shallow Rift, Sonnenberg's Clinic |
| Iron Boulders | 196 | Sonnenberg's Clinic (56) |
| Coal Boulders | 163 | Sonnenberg's Clinic (16), Horizon (12) |
| Trees | 144 | Woods and the estate grounds |
| Sulfur Boulders | 137 | Sonnenberg's Clinic (42) |
| Copper Boulders | 136 | Rift Cave, Landscar Cave, Crater |
| Gold Boulders | 109 | Woodcutters Outpost (13) |
| Moonrock Boulders | 54 | Sonnenberg's Clinic (16), Crater (13) |
Sonnenberg's Clinic is the mining hub of the map. Iron, coal, sulfur and moonrock all cluster there harder than anywhere else, so once you have a Flint Pickaxe it is worth the walk.
Traders, safe zones and caves
Traders are stored as 17 markers under 11 names, and the three most-stocked names each appear three times: General Trader, Condor and The Mule. Named individuals include Eric Hirsch, Anna, Robyn, Logan Boyce, Dr. Sonnenberg, Jeremiah Crow, The Rat Queen and Skinwalker. They are not all in one place — Robyn and the General Trader sit near Horizon, and others are out by the Church and beyond — so check each one rather than assuming they share a stock list.
Safe zones are the seven spots the map treats as safe to work from: the Church, Crow's Nest, Horizon, Sonnenberg's Clinic, The Last Stand, Solar Power Plant and Technocrats Colony. Plan loops from a safe zone instead of from wherever you happen to be standing.
There are four mapped caves — Bone Cave, Rift Cave, Landscar Cave and Cougar's Den — and all four are worth visiting for different reasons: Bone Cave for early Flint, Rift Cave for Copper, Landscar Cave for Copper on the way to Solar Fields, and Cougar's Den further out. Separately, 101 cold zones mark areas with a temperature penalty where you cannot build, so check them before committing to a long trip.
Fast travel points
Fast travel works by discovery: you visit a post once to unlock it, then travel between unlocked posts. The map data lists exactly five posts:
- Horizon
- Solar Fields
- Church
- Crow's Nest
- The Last Stand
Some third-party databases also list a sixth point called Home. The mirrored dataset behind this page has only the five above, so treat a count of six as 待确认 and check it in your own save.
One practical warning from player reports rather than from the map itself: fast travel unlocks late, behind blueprints, so expect to run your first several trips on foot. 待确认.
Two marker problems are tracked separately in the developer's Known Issues list. Quest markers can disappear — switching from offline mode to online mode brings them back. And explored map data and custom markers can reset when a save loads; that one is acknowledged and still open, so treat custom markers as temporary.
Fast travel also picked up a quality-of-life change after launch: the update notes state that fast travel points are easier to spot. If a post still looks inconspicuous on your screen, check whether your build has taken that patch.
Loot containers, shelters and wildlife
The biggest single loot class is grim but simple: 634 frozen bodies, more than any other container on the map. After those come military crates (205), suitcases (171), lockers (151), electric boxes (134), toolboxes (105), wooden crates (90) and medical supply boxes (64) — 1,955 containers in total.
For overnight stops the map counts 75 sleeping bags, 20 beds, 18 workbenches, 14 stoves, 3 tents and 3 campfires. Workbenches are the ones worth routing through, because that is where Flint tools, Wire and Copper processing happen.
Loose pickups are tracked separately again — 460 of them, led by mushrooms (36), wood (34), plastic junk (31), metal junk (26), rags (22) and oil (19). Wildlife is thin on the map: only 19 markers across seven species (moose, red deer, boar, muskox, wolf, bear, fox), which is a reminder that animal spawns are dynamic and the map only records a handful of fixed points.
Best beginner route
- Reach Horizon. It is the first real settlement you come to, after the intro ravine and cave.
- Stock up locally. Gather stone, flint and wood close to safety, and build a Stone Pickaxe before wandering far.
- Clear the nearby places. Nomad Camp and Bunker Checkpoint are both mapped close to Horizon; pick them off according to your current quest rather than treating this as a fixed order.
- Craft a Flint Pickaxe, then go for Copper. Use the Copper run preset to pick your nearest cluster, and bank the Copper at a workbench.
- Unlock travel posts and expand. Extend your range one post at a time, watching cold exposure and carrying enough to get back.
How to avoid getting lost
- Pick one destination at a time and use the search box to name it before you set off.
- Start from a safe zone and know your return route before you leave it.
- Leave spare inventory space — the loot layer shows how much is out there, and it is easy to overfill.
- Carry food, medical supplies and cold protection; 101 cold zones is a lot of map to be caught in.
- Retreat when the weather turns instead of pushing deeper. Nothing on a map is worth a lost run.
How accurate is this map?
Every marker here is mirrored from a community map database that reads the game's own files, tagged to Early Access build 0.44.2.4634-milestone. That tag is the map's own build label, not a patch number published in the Steam listing. 待确认.
The honest caveat is that different databases disagree. A second community map, built on a different vocabulary, reports 4,108 markers, 49 named places and 10 loot regions rather than the 156 marker types used here; it also attaches item-type counts to regions (House Camp 45 spawnable types, Woods 31, Solars 57) and quest counts to places (House Camp 6 quests, Bunker 21 and Solar Fields 3 each, Bone Cave, Church and Hunter's Glade 2 each). Those are genuinely useful for guessing where the story wants you next, but they are that site's readings and they do not reconcile with the totals above. Where the two disagree, this page says so rather than averaging them.
What the map cannot tell you: whether a container has already been looted, whether an ore node has respawned, or anything you have built yourself. Re-check after each patch, because a route saved today can be stale after the next update.
FAQ
Is there an official Permafrost map?
Not from the developers. There is an in-game journal map, and community tools read that same texture and the world files to build browser maps — including the one on this page.
Where is copper in Permafrost?
136 Copper Boulders in total. The richest clusters are Rift Cave (17), Landscar Cave (13) and Crater (11). You need a Flint Pickaxe; a Stone Pickaxe will not mine them.
Does Permafrost have fast travel?
Yes — posts you unlock by visiting them. The mirrored data lists five: Horizon, Solar Fields, Church, Crow's Nest and The Last Stand.
What is the fastest way to get around early?
Unlock Horizon first, then work outward. Use the Travel & shelter preset to see sleeping bags, beds, campfires and workbenches on the same screen as the travel posts.
Can I mine Iron, Coal and Sulfur yet?
Not with a Stone Pickaxe. Craft a Flint Pickaxe first, then head for Sonnenberg's Clinic, where iron, coal, sulfur and moonrock all cluster.
Why do two maps give different totals?
They count different things. One categorises by layer type (this page, 156 types), the other by region and named place. Neither is the game's authoritative count, so use them side by side rather than picking one.
