Permafrost Patch Notes: Crash, Co-op and Quest Fixes
What Permafrost's first post-launch update fixed: crashes, the friends server list, quest items, building and controls, plus the earlier launch hotfix.
Short answer: the first substantial update after the October 9, 2026 Early Access launch is a stability and co-op patch rather than a content drop. It fixes six crash and stutter causes, improves the friends-only server list, changes how quest items behave in the world, and adds a set of quality-of-life changes. There is no new map, quest or item in it.
Which update this is
The developer posts patch notes in the Steam news feed, and this wiki's release-date and PC pages date this one to October 10, the day after launch, with the accompanying Known Issues list refreshed on October 11. The notes themselves do not publish a patch number, and the store page does not surface one either, so the version string on your own title screen is the only thing that tells you which build you are running — 待确认 if you need an exact build identifier.
Crashes and performance
Six fixes were listed under this heading:
- A crash after skipping the intro video
- A crash when joining while another player holds a ranged weapon
- A crash when using a held consumable
- A crash when reloading a campfire on the world map
- Stutter caused by stair building parts
- DLSS and FSR updated
The ranged-weapon crash is the notable one for co-op groups, because it fires on join rather than during play — it is the kind of bug that looks like the host's world is refusing connections. The DLSS and FSR update follows the launch-day hotfix that addressed FSR on RTX 40- and 50-series cards.
Co-op
One deliberate change: the friends-only server list now prioritises your friends' worlds and shows more servers. That is an improvement to the list you see when you host — it does not fix the separate problem of a world not appearing at all, which the developer lists as still in progress with its own workaround.
Gameplay
- Quest items are no longer removed from the world when picked up, which is intended to stop some quests from getting stuck
- Fast travel points are easier to spot
- Fixed errors when equipping items directly from the ground
- Improved building part placement
- Updated building materials
- The TR-22 RUDI pistol now counts for the "Craft Any Weapon" task
The quest-item change is the most consequential line in the update. Until it landed, an item could leave the world when picked up, which is one of the ways a quest step can become impossible to complete. It is a mitigation rather than a cure: the Known Issues list still tracks quest steps that fail to register, and still asks players to follow the given order.
Controls and UI
- A progress circle was added to input hints — the on-screen prompts that show how long you must hold a key
- Crafting tooltips fixed with a gamepad
Other changes
- Animation issues fixed on some doors
- Translation improvements and missing texts added
- Profanity filter updated
The translation work continues a launch-week theme: players had been reporting Simplified Chinese font and untranslated-text problems, and this update is the developer's first pass at them rather than a complete fix.
The earlier launch hotfix
Before this update, a October 9 hotfix dealt with FSR and graphics problems on RTX 40- and 50-series cards. It is a separate entry in the news feed and is not part of the notes summarised above.
What is still open
The developer closes the notes by saying they are continuing to work on more fixes, including quest blockers and co-op problems, and points readers at the Known Issues list for workarounds in the meantime. So the honest framing of this update is: the crash and stutter cluster is addressed, while the two areas players care about most in co-op — joining a friend's world and quest progression — remain partially open.
How to tell whether you have it
The update downloads through Steam like any other patch. Two quick checks: fast travel posts should be visibly easier to find on the map, and a quest item picked up early should stay in the world rather than disappearing from its spot. If neither is true, your client has not updated.
